Description : The symposium will review the markedly variable mineral endowment of Archean granite-greenstone terranes focussing on the architecture of these terranes in three dimensions with studies of surface geology, reflection seismic, and magnetotelluric profiles. The symposium will highlight new results from Laurentian University’s Metal Earth programme where in excess of 1,000 km of reflection seismic and magnetotelluric geophysical surveys have provided some of the highest resolution imaging across of series of transects in the Abitibi and the Wabigoon subprovinces. The contributions to the symposium will emphasize field geological and geophysical surveys along with complementary laboratory geochemical, geochronological and isotopic studies providing new insights into the geological architecture of granite-greenstone terranes, their relationship to metasedimentary belts and metal endowment within the Superior craton.
