The development of natural resources can lead to significant environmental impacts on geological and hydrogeological systems. Society now demands that such development be responsible and sustainable. Local or regional populations can also suffer impacts related to various natural or anthropogenic geological risks (earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, climate change, groundwater contamination, etc.). Geoscientists are at the forefront to support developers, governments and communities impacted by natural resources development and natural geological hazards. This theme aims to merge sessions that will discuss the role of geoscientists in our society, among others for explanation of geological phenomena, education, development of government policies, or social acceptability of geological resources development.
