Big data, artificial intelligence (AI) and data assimilation are becoming commonly-heard catch phrases. Indeed, the recent huge increase in geoscience data from multiple sources cannot easily be managed using conventional techniques to extract useful information such as deep data relations. Recent technical and software processing developments have now allowed tackling these tasks with great success in several domains including Earth sciences. For example, the Integra Goldrush and Disrupt_Mining innovation competitions have proven the high potential of AI as a resource exploration and estimation tool. The scope of this theme covers various domains within the field of data sciences, including visualization, management, processing and utilization of various geoscientific databases.
